Kryptothera The Cryptid Pursuit
Cryptids were once myths. Now their power shapes the world.
Kryptothera is a competitive adventure board game where players take on the role of hunters operating in a dark Art Deco setting inspired by folklore. Each game unfolds across a point-to-point world map, as players track rumours, move between locations, and gear up to hunt cryptids.
Gameplay is driven by a strong PvE core. Cryptids are resolved through stat-check encounters that reward preparation, timing, and judgement. Players must weigh their odds and decide when to return to base to deposit their captured cryptids, and when to remain in the wild and push their luck for greater rewards, knowing that failure can carry lasting consequences.
Player interaction escalates naturally throughout the game. Global event cards can affect all players or target the active hunter, offering unpredictable rewards or losses. Hunters can also interfere with rivals through strategic PvP combat, steal cryptids, and disrupt opposing plans. The experience blends pick-up-and-deliver objectives with tactical movement, risk management, and direct confrontation.
Each session creates a clear narrative arc, from early exploration to late-game tension, ensuring that no two hunts play out the same. Random event cards, a changing cryptid roster, private contracts, and customisable hunters ensure high replayability. Kryptothera can be played with full narrative immersion, by reading event and cryptid cards aloud, or at a faster pace by resolving effects directly, allowing groups to tailor the experience without altering the core rules. It delivers a cinematic, high-stakes tabletop experience where ambition is tested and no decision is ever without consequence.
