The Great Commission Strategic Card Game
Some knock the Christian theme, but is The Great Commission good?
While some gamers may bounce hard off the theme of The Great Commission Strategic Card Game, others have been intrigued by its challenging tactical cooperative or solo gameplay. "As a non-Christian, this game won me over with its unique use of theme and fun mechanics. Score: A-” Board Games with Joe.
It's a medium-weight game in which players tactically manage and build a church tableau using a variety of multi-use workers. Each one has 4 stats and a unique special ability used to construct the most effective engine possible, but the more people you gain, the more "Troubles" they bring into your church!
In an interview with creators Paul Snugg and Simon Amadeus Pillario, they stated: "Yes, there's going to be people who say, 'I ain't playing that.' But people play games where you invoke Zeus or Odin, and you get a power-up. Instead of a hospital or an army, you're managing a church, and people have found it just as fun and challenging."
And indeed, the different combos created by the 240 cards can be just that. "I feel like I've just reached the tip of the iceberg with all of the different combinations there are ... I really enjoy games like that, and this one really knocked it out of the park," said the recent Dice Tower review. Going on to give a "very strong 8/10", saying, "it's streamlined, it's fun ... it's thematic, it's aesthetic, I can't think of any cons."
