How it Works

A Variety of Online Solutions

They say modern problems require modern solutions. We're using a range of different technologies to make as much as possible of the traditional Expo available from the comfort of your own home.

It may not be possible to bring 100% of the UK Games Expo to life in a virtual format, but our intention is to recreate as much as we can, and that you will be able to meet, talk to and play with exhibitors and other attendees in much the same way you'd expect at the physical Expo.

When is it?

Virtually Expo will be accessible on your preferred device from 6pm Friday 21st August to 4pm Sunday 23rd August. Because it's entirely online, you can enjoy it for as long as you like during that period, but our volunteers and staff will only be available between 8am - 6pm.

What do I need?

On this page, we'll post the software and platforms we're planning to use, along with some details and resources on each of them. We recommend that you download, install and familiarise yourself with as many of these as you like in advance. That way, you won't miss out on Expo while you wait for things to install.

Discord is an app designed to help gamers talk to each other in real time. While playing a game on their device, users can log into Discord and enter a group chat with one or more other gamers so they can talk while they play. We will use Discord throughout Virtually Expo to create different spaces for people to interact.

Twitch is a live streaming platform often used for computer and console gamers, but for Virtually Expo we will be making use of Twitch to broadcast seminars, some live shows and other content along with using it for game demonstrations.

These are links if you want some basics on how to get Twitch on your Apple Phone or Android Device.

Zoom is an easy, reliable cloud platform for video and audio conferencing, chat, and webinars. We will be using this for seminars, live interviews and chats, demos and some RPGs and organised Play will use this. If this is to be used you will be receive a link to Zoom.
