Death Spiral Games Launch Sleeper
Indie RPG company talk about Expo Plans
Death Spiral Games are excited that they are about the Launch of their Sleepr RPG at UK Games Expo
Tony Porret said, "The 2015 UK Games Expo is the first year that Death Spiral Games will have a stand. We’re extremely excited to be launching our roleplaying game, Sleeper: Orphans of the Cold War, this year. It’s the culmination of years of work designing, writing and producing the game, and the Expo is the perfect venue to release our book into the world. Not only is it great because of the sheer size of the event, but the Expo has always supported multiple types of games including tabletop roleplaying games and attracted a variety of gamers to give us the most exposure and feedback possible. We’ve attended the Expo for many years as gaming enthusiasts, and it’s cool to know that now we’re on the other side of the able so to speak, getting people excited about our game just like we were excited at all the new games in years past.
One of our aims is to get people at the Expo interacting with our game, because that’s the best way to let them know what the game is like. We’re running several four-hour gaming sessions, for instance, so players can get an in-depth look at the game’s rules and background. Not everyone can commit to those sessions, however, so we’re also running shorter encounters at the Death Spiral Games stand, with three different scenarios and several of our signature characters to try out. We believe the best way to learn about Sleeper and understand what it brings to the table is to play it, so our priority is to make sure there are plenty of ways to do just that.
Sleeper’s core rulebook will be for sale at our stand, and those who backed us on Kickstarter can pick up their book in person. We’re also really excited to be selling Baron, the first novella set in the world of Sleeper. We see both Baron and the core Sleeper rulebook as the first in their respective gaming and fiction lines, and starting it all at the Expo is a great feeling. We’re also eager to take the chance to speak with gamers and potential fans of the game, to get a better idea of what books and other products we could focus on in the future. Gaming is a uniquely interactive form of publishing as the players interact with our books on such a complex level, and a convention like the Expo is a great place to hear the players’ and readers’ side of it.
We’re particularly excited to be a part of the UK Games Expo awards, too. Every year dozens of new games get released so it’s both exhilarating and a little scary to see Sleeper listed along the other nominations. However the awards are given, the response will tell us a lot about the gaming public’s reaction to Sleeper.
As lifelong gamers, the UK Games Expo has long been a fixture in our calendars. This year it’s even more important to us than before because we’re a part of the Expo, letting attendees interact with our game, and seeing gamers buying our rulebook and heading off to create their own games with what we’ve created. It might be the first UK Games Expo that Death Spiral attends, but with luck, it won’t be the last.
