• An overview of a games publishing agreement (its purpose, the key terms, what to look out for etc); and

• Key legal issues to consider when self-publishing games / setting up a board games publishing company, including:

o Routes to market
o Key contracts you will need to put in place
o Data protection
o Brand protection


Michael is an associate at Penningtons Manches. He advises clients on a variety of commercial agreements, including manufacturing and distribution agreements and terms and conditions of sale, as well as on intellectual property matters (with a particular focus on copyright and trade marks). He is a keen board games fan and has advised a number of businesses in the sector on issues ranging from publishing agreements to major IP licences. He also has extensive experience of advising businesses on their trade mark portfolios and brand protection strategies.
