New board games for 2008
UK Games Expo encourages the board games industry to tie in news releases with it and we are glad to announce the following new games will be released at or around UK Games Expo.
Ice Flow Ludorum games
ICE FLOW is a family strategy board game. Players race their explorers across the Bering Strait from Alaska to Siberia - riding ice floes, dodging polar bears, and collecting useful items en route. The first to arrive in Siberia with three explorers intact is the winner!
ICE FLOW is a 2-4 player game by the winners of UK Games Expo 2007 best new Board game.
Monastery Ragnar Brothers
Monastery is a tile laying game in which players construct different parts of a medieval monastery. The work is done by the monks of a player. The monks may move from tile to tile and in addition to building work they can also study, toil or pray.
Athene JKLM
With the unspeakable events of Troy behind them, the Greek Captains steer their ships for home. But Athene will not let these acts go unanswered and marshals the storm clouds as they have never been marshaled before, and nor will they be again. As the storm rises, and the currents take a greater and greater hold of your ship, can you steer your way home, or will you be swept into an inescapable whirlpool, or off the edge of the world?
Huang Di JKLM
In Huang Di, you play one of 2-6 master builders chosen by the Emperor (Qin Shi Huang) to help construct one of the greatest man-made structures in the world – The Great Wall of China. Your goal is to become the most distinguished master builder in China with the help of your taskmasters, workers and Qin Shi Huang himself!
In the game, all players use identical sets of role cards to select their actions such as purchasing workers, building, collecting money from the treasury, etc. In addition to scoring points for having built the majority of blocks on each section and each level of the wall, players can also boost their income by completing favours for the Emperor.
This game won the first ever ProtoSlam competition held by Cambridge Games Factory in August 2006 and is the first published game by designer, Bryan Johnson. The game is scheduled for release at the UK Games Expo.
Fruit fair Wattsalpoag

Secretly assign your pickers and gardeners to the fruit trees of the farm's orchards. The raccoon steals fruit, so be careful or your pickers will come back with empty baskets. Should you send fruits to the fair to win prizes early? Or do you keep them and attract special helpers to your farm for extra benefits? In the end the player with the best prizes from the fair wins!
Confucius Surprised Stare
In the Celestial Empire of the Ming Dynasty the leading families vie with one another for political power and influence over the Imperial government. They do not compete by brazen force of arms, but within the confines of Confucian philosophy. Subtle influence is wielded, gifts are given and received, setting up a network of relationships that will lead one family to dominate the government under a benign Emperor.
Tinners Trail Warfrog

Warfrog will be releasing the first game in a new line of games to be called the Treefrog Line.
The first game will be called Tinners' Trail, which is about the copper and tin mining industries in Cornwall in the nineteenth century. Players must secure the best mines, improve them, then hopefully sell their ore for the best price.
This will be a limited first edition game. The first 1,500 will be numbered and signed. No more will be produced by Warfrog.
