Players must register all army lists with the judge before the events begins and keep one copy of each for opponents to view upon request.

Painting, Modelling, Proxies and Conversions:

All models must clearly represent their troop type.

Army Lists & Composition:

Army lists must be submitted to the Umpire by Saturday 24th May for checking. If you do not submit, or submit a late list, you will not be eligible to win any of the prizes.

Armies from the Late period from the Festung Europa, D-1, Bloody Omaha, Monty's Meat Grinder, Villlers Bocage or D-Day or any Official v2.0 Late-war lists from the Battlefront web site are allowed - if in any doubt please check

Armies are to be Late War and 1500 points or their relevant equivalent.

What format should I submit my list? - We can accept any of the following electronic formats: Text file, Word Document, Rich Text format, PDF file, Excel Spreadsheet, HTML or Army Builder v3.0 RST files.

Format and Rounds:

Mini-campaign system, three rounds.

Note: Players will be playing Axis versus Allies if at all possible.

We would like it to be as it's a great way to play the game. But, it's quite difficult to call, as until we get all the armies in (don't forget Saturday 24th May) we will not know if it is even numbers for the protagonists. If we cannot make it an Axis vs. Allies event then we will pre-draw the first round so that as many games as possible are Axis vs. Allies and then in Rounds 2 & 3 will use a Swiss chess system to ensure that as many games as possible are Axis vs Allies (For example the highest placed Axis player will play the highest placed Allied player, etc.).

Players participate in timed Swiss-format matches in which all players partake in every round.

In the event of a tie, the "Strength of Schedule" system will serve as a tiebreaker.

Rounds last 2 1/2 hours for a 1500 points event. When the time expires the Judge will call "Last Round!" At the time this is called, players should complete their final turns. If the player that began the match has already finished his turn, then the second player should take his. The player who went first should not have more turns than his opponent.

Scoring:

A gamer's score in the tournament is based on three factors:

1) Historical Army (32 pts.)

A) Painting 20pts.

A well-painted army is much more enjoyable to field and to face than undercoated or unpainted figures.

a) 0 - Unpainted army.
b) 2 - Poorly painted with many models unfinished.
c) 10 - Painted, but lacks detail
d) 12 - Good basic painting, including faces, hands, boots and guns
e) 14 - Well-painted force with added details including, but not limited to stowage, unit markings, aerials, accurate colours and scenic basing.
f) 16 - As above, but with that certain WOW factor also involved

In addition the best painted army, as chosen by the players, will receive a further 4pts and a trophy. The second and third placed armies will also receive 4pts

B) Uniformity 12pts.

Even if the paint job is only average, an army always looks better if all of the troops look like they belong together. If you painted your entire force in the same style then there is no reason that you cannot score maximum points in this category. We will use some judgment and leeway for forces comprising entirely of vehicles as there is no requirement to base these.

a) 0 - Unbased or Unpainted.
b) 4 - Several different styles in the army, all painted and based, but no coherency.
c) 6 - Similar style across the whole army maybe a unit or two look out of place and not part of the force.
d) 8 - Whole army fits well together and looks like a coherent fighting force.

In addition three armies will receive four additional points for the other players 'favorite army lists'. The top scorer will also receive the adoration of his or her peers.

2) Generalship (96 pts.)

The biggest single block of points is allocated for the player's generalship, their performance as a tabletop general. Each game has 32 points allocated between the two players. Work out who is the winner of the game, this is the player who has fulfilled their mission objectives, or who has broken the enemy force consult the victory points table for the mission.

· If the winning player scores 7-0 (this is only included for completeness, it's a very rare situation, you would have to be fighting against a "Desert Fox" force using Rommel, kill Rommel, and not loose anything yourself) then the winner scores 32 tournament points.
· If the winner claims a 6-1 victory then they score 28 tournament points, plus or minus 1pt per the difference in the number of platoons destroyed* to a maximum of 32 points or a minimum of 25 points.
· If the winner claims a 5-2 victory then they score 24 tournament points, plus or minus 1pt per the difference in the number of platoons destroyed* to a maximum of 28 points or a minimum of 21 points
· If the winner claims a 4-3 victory then they score 20 tournament points, plus or minus 1pt per the difference in the number of platoons destroyed* to a maximum of 24 points or a minimum of 17 points
· If the game ends in a draw, then the winner is the player who has destroyed the most enemy platoons*, he scores 16 tournament points plus 1pt per the difference in platoons destroyed* to a maximum of 18 tournament points or a minimum of 14 points.

*Note that the Company HQ Platoon counts towards this score.

The loser (or in the case of a draw the player who killed the least platoons) gets 32-winners score tournament points.

Both players score must add up to 32.

This may seem complicated, but as a player all you need to do on your results sheet is enter your score and the number of platoons each side killed. The umpire & software will determine your tournament scores from this information.

3) Sporting Play (32 pts.)

Each round is worth 0-8 points based on the following questions each worth 2 points each.

A) Did you feel that your opponent fielded a fair and historical balanced force or one designed to take advantage of the rules?

a) Very fair and balanced force giving a flavour of a force of that time - 2pts
b) A fair force - 1pt
c) Units seems to be a mix of troops picked for their gaming potential rather than any specific historical reasons - 0pt

B) Did your opponent play the game at a pace that was suitable for both of you?

a) I was happy with how the game ran, this is the pace I like to play at - 2pts
b) The game ran at a good speed - 1pt
c) I feel that my opponent was trying to run out time for a draw, or alternatively they rushed through things and I was not really sure of what was happening - 0pts

C) Did you enjoy the game?

a) Yes it was one of those games that I'll remember for a long time - 2pts
b) Yes - 1pt
c) No - 0pt

D) Would you wish to play this opponents again?

a) Yes - 2pts
b) No - 1pts
c) After that I don't think I ever even want to enter a tournament again - 0pts

Also at the end of the Tournament players will vote for their favourite opponent. If a player get one vote, he will get 2 extra tournament pts., two votes,he will get 4 tournament pts., and three votes, he will get 8 extra tournament pts.

Judging & Sportsmanship:

The objective of tournament play is for everyone to to have a good time. Players are expected to be courteous and patient with their opponents and the Judge. Players are expected to accept all rulings made by the Judge whether or not they agree. The Judge always has the final word on rules questions or debates.

We assume that all players are good sports and understand fair play. If there is a dispute, simply call on the judge to assist. Players should strive at all times to be mature, polite, and fair to their opponents. Failure to do this may result in a Strike. Each Strike accrued will cost a player 10% of their total tournament score for the Tournament. Three Strikes accrued ar a single event will result in the player being removed from the event.

A Judge may award a Strike for any incident deemed unsporting. This included but is not limited to offensive or abusive conduct, bullying, cheating, constant rules arguments, stalling game play and other immature actions. Players must do their best to play in a timely manner. If stalling is suspected the judge should be called on to speed up play. it is important to remember that a Judge is free to award a Strike to both competitors of a game if the situation warrants. In some minor cases a Judge may elect to officially warn players once for any given indiscretion. Repeated offenses will incur a strike.

A Strike may also be awarded for incorrect or illegal army lists or failure to bring along all the necessary materials required to play in the Tournament. If a list is discovered to be illegal after the start of the tournament, the judge may elect to disqualify the player from any winnings or awards.

Scenarios and Setup:

Combat Missions:

There are six missions in the A5 mini-rule book:

1. Free-For-All, 2.Encounter, 3. Hold the Line, 4. Fighting Withdrawal, 5. Breakthrough, 6. The Cauldron.

At the start of each round a random mission will be drawn from the hat for all the competitors to play. If any mission card is drawn out twice over the weekend then it will be subsequently discarded from the draw. Also, if a mission is drawn out twice in a row, it will be discarded and re-drawn. NOTE: We cannot include the Roadblock mission as we cannot guarantee that there will be a road available for each table.

Take a few minutes to run through your army with your opponent, checking that they are aware of any special rules that apply to your force. Also agree on the effects of any terrain on the table you are about to play on before you start the game. If you have units in Reserve or Ambush declare to your opponent what they are.

All games are played on 6' x 4' surfaces. Judges place terrain before the tournament begins.

Flames of War is best played with plenty of terrain on the table. We can provide many tables worth of terrain, but if you or your club can provide some terrain please let us know in advance

Late Arrivals

There have been some recent issues with players arriving late for their games and then subsequently being unable to finish the game in time. The following rules will be in force for the event: 1. If you are up to ten minutes late, apologise to your opponent and get on with the game. 2. If you are between ten and twenty minutes late you start the game as if you had already lost a platoon for all game and scoring purposes - for instance if you are running an army based on four platoons and you subsequently lose two of your fighting platoons it would count as three platoons lost and two available to fight and therefore force a company motivation check. Also when working out the game score this counts as an additional platoon lost, so if you achieved your objective without losing any of the platoons in your force this would not count as a 6:1 but rather a 5:2 as your lateness forfeited you a platoon. When working out the tournament score these count as a platoon lost too. 3. If you are between 20 and 30 minutes late then you count as starting the game with two platoons already lost as above. 4. If you are more than 30 minutes late your opponent has the choice of taking a 32-0 massacre from you, or allowing the game to be played, but with your force counting as starting with three platoons already destroyed.
